Powerful Owl (Ninox strenua) illustration using 11 x 14″ (28 x 35.5cm) Ampersand scratchboard and acrylic (eye).
Scratchboard is a white clay board coated in black ink. The black ink is then scratched away using various fine tools to expose the white clay.
Listed as threatened in some parts of Australia the Powerful Owl is our largest owl in Australia, growing to 65cm in length. It feeds mostly on arboreal mammals such as possums and gliders.
